Lee Roy Selmon has a background that is a combination of family scholarships football with volunteer work in the community. First, he was raised by Lucious and Jessie Selmon on their Eufala farm. He was their youngest of nine children. It was also the only one of three siblings who represented Oklahoma in football. The three brothers were all All-America. Lucious Jr. Dewey, Lee Roy, and Lucious Jr. Dewey started the 1973 season. Lee Roy was named the most offensive lineman in the nation by Outland, Lombardi and the Outland Awards. In his three years as a starter Oklahoma finished 32-1-0 and secured two national championships. In 1975, he was awarded his third scholarship, and was acknowledged as an National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon graduated with a degree in education. Fourth year of college Lee Roy devoted ten hours each week on volunteer work. After graduating, he settled in Tampa played nine years with the Buccaneers was all-pro three times and started a business career. By 1988 he had become an Account Representative for Tampa's First Florida Bank and worked for these organizations: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute on Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982 The Junior Chamber of Commerce recognized him as one of America's top young males. Lee Roy was 6'2" tall and weighed 265 pounds when was playing college football. The year 1975 was the first time he commanded the team. He was hired by the University of South Florida in 1993, as director of athletics as an associate. He was named to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988 the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994, and then the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. The Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 awarded the Distinguished American Award to his parents Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor of Oklahoma who conferred this award.
